Coating-based high-barrier roll film achieves significant gas and moisture barrier performance through the application of specialized barrier coatings directly onto oriented film substrates, without the use of metallic layers. Typical constructions combine coated oriented films with compatible seal layers — specific structures are recommended based on the customer's barrier targets, transparency requirements, and end-of-life sustainability objectives.

The barrier coating is applied uniformly to deliver consistent oxygen and water vapor transmission rates, bonding durably to the base film and maintaining its integrity through printing, lamination, and downstream converting operations.

This film is particularly valued in markets where packaging transparency is a commercial requirement and where sustainability commitments make metallized or foil laminates less desirable. It is suited to confectionery, bakery, and dry snack applications requiring transparency with moderate barrier, as well as applications needing higher barrier performance and greater thermal stability.
