PLA/PBAT
PBAT and PLA blend composite pouches are produced from a co-formulated biodegradable polymer blend that combines the stiffness and clarity of polylactic acid with the flexibility, elongation, and toughness of polybutylene adipate terephthalate, delivering a certified compostable flexible pouch format with converting and filling performance superior to single-component PLA structures. The blend ratio and any additional functional layers are specified based on the application's mechanical demands, converting conditions, and compostability certification requirements.
PBAT contributes high elongation at break and impact resistance, enabling the blend film to flex and absorb mechanical stress during converting and pouch filling without the cracking or stress whitening that limits pure PLA in demanding applications. PLA contributes the stiffness, clarity, and surface properties needed for reliable print adhesion and machine-direction tension control on standard FFS equipment.
The resulting blend film is certified compostable under industrial composting conditions, with disintegration and biodegradation performance validated to applicable international standards. This format is suited to dry food, fresh produce, confectionery, and consumer goods packaging where both composting end-of-life and reliable functional performance are required.
