Back-seal pillow pouches are formed by sealing the film along a fin or lap seal at the back of the package, creating a cylindrical pillow format that is widely used on vertical form-fill-seal equipment for snack food, confectionery, fresh produce, and dry product packaging. Laminate structures are recommended based on the product's shelf-life, presentation, and barrier requirements — options include matte-finish constructions for artisan product positioning and full-barrier structures for oxygen and moisture-sensitive contents.

The fin or lap back seal is formed continuously inline on VFFS equipment, making the back-seal pouch one of the most production-efficient formats available. End seals at the top and bottom complete the enclosure with consistent seal strength, and optional gassing with nitrogen or modified atmosphere can be incorporated for sensitive product applications.

Print options include flexographic and gravure up to ten colors. Custom film widths and perforation patterns can be specified for multi-pack or strip formats.
